Alumni Garden

Alumni Garden

The Alumni Garden is located in the central part of campus between the Lowman Student Center (LSC) and Rather Communications Building.

SHSU constructed the garden on property used as a loading area for the LSC. Decades before, it was the site of the President's House.

The original plan was to install the alumni bricks closer to the nearby Alumni Fountain, but this changed because of the high-volume foot traffic. The landscaped garden now features granite bricks and benches as a permanent memorial to university alums and friends. A plaque outside the garden salutes the efforts of the SHSU Alumni Association in getting the garden off (or in) the ground.

In 2003, SHSU installed a $30,000, 16-foot tall E. Howard Post clock replica to the garden through contributions from Ron and Ruth Blatchley. Each face of the clock features letters making up the name Sam Houston in place of numbers.

The Presidents Tree is at the southeast corner of the garden.
