Abattoir Building

Abattoir Building

The Abattoir Building is one of the buildings located at the former Agriculture Center along northbound Interstate 45.

The Agriculture Department used the one-story building as a slaughterhouse since its construction.

In the mid-1980s, the department relocated the meat processing functions found in the Meats and Milk Processing Lab to a newly-completed addition on the north side of this building. As a result, maps and signage may refer to this building as the Meats Lab.

Students enrolled in upper-level Agriculture classes cut and package beef (including Bearkat Beef), pork, lamb, and other non-traditional meat products from this building [1].
