The Engineering Technology Annex B building is located at the northeastern corner of Sam Houston Avenue and 21st Street.
The building was constructed in 1981 and referred to as Fine Arts II [1]. It served as the functional successor of the “small frame building” behind the Fine Arts Studio Building (the de facto Fine Arts I) that the Department of Art staff used for sculpture and ceramics instruction. As part of its formal opening that year the department hosted the “Celebration of Texas Sculpture” exhibition [2].
After the demolition of the Fine Arts Studio Building, campus documents identified this structure simply as the Sculpture Studio [3].
By the late-1990s the studio became known as Building C [4] of the Art Complex. Campus maps of the 1990s were less detailed, simply labeling Building C and its newly-built neighboring buildings as a collective group called the Fine Arts Complex [5]. The Art Department moved into the Hoyt Art Complex in 2019.
The Department of Engineering Technology assumed ownership of the building, which was within walking distance of the Pirkle Engineering Technology Center. Engineering Technology Annex B is a mechanical and manufacturing technology facility with specialized equipment and research offices [6].
