What’s behind the myth of native american alcoholism?
In this article “What’s behind the myth of native american alcoholism” by Roxanne Duribar-Ortiz and Dina Gilio-Whitaker mentions the introduction of alcohol to native americans in 1777 including now it results in loss of culture, land and sovereignty. Alcohol and native americans death rates were higher because “ indians deaths due to alcoholism were found to be five and half to seven and a half higher” ( Dunbar and Gilo-whitaker, October 16, 2016). The worst part was behavior, the alcohol was able to change the way the individual was acting, causing them to be angry. “Europeans introduced alcohol to American Indians as an instrument of trade and diplomacy ( Dunbar and Gilo-whitaker, October 16, 2016).

Childhood trauma exposure and alcohol dependance severity in Adulthood: mediation by emotional abuse severity and neuroticisms.
Childhood trauma is highly prevalent in treatment- seeking alcoholics and may play a significant role in the development of severity of alcohol dependence through an internalizing pathway involving negative affect. Also that alcoholics with a history of childhood emotional abuse may be particularly vulnerable to severe dependence. However “childhood trauma has been linked to a multitude of consequences in both early life and adulthood, including alterations in the brain structure and function variation in personality traits” (Schwandt, Melanie. 10 Center drive). There are five types of childhood trauma and they consist of “emotional abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional neglect and physical neglect. Well on the other hand individual trauma types were examined for emotional and physical abuse”(Schwandt, Melanie. 10 Center drive).

6 reasons why childhood trauma leads to drugs and alcohol
From the short article I was able to learn that drugs and alcohol are often being used as a coping mechanism that children are using to deal with reality or something they are going through at the moment. However “ there is no limit to what type of childhood trauma is linked to an increased risk of addiction” ( Oliver, Brittany. May 30, 2018). Both physical and emotional trauma create experience that can affect the development of substance abuse disorder”( Oliver, Brittany. May 30, 2018) . Childhood abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, the loss of a parent, witnessing domestic violence and other traumatic experiences has always involved alcoholism.

When going through trauma or developing ptsd, it can lead to alcohol use problems. Alcohol problems are more common for those who experience trauma, if they are having ongoing health problems or pain. However alcohol is commonly used as a distraction from reality. When using too much alcohol it could make it harder for you to cope with your trauma memories, "Alcohol use and intoxication increases some ptsd symptoms" (unknown author).

Most children that are dealing with someone who abuses alcohol have possibly experienced the five types of abuse, which are emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and emotional neglect. In addition to determining whether or not these men and women had experienced trauma. However it is discovered that childhood trauma was significantly more prevalent among the men and women who are now seeing help for a drinking problem. "The connection between child abuse, neglect and later drinking problems have reported higher levels of anxiety, depression and/or anger" (Nowinski, Joseph. Ph.D).

Alcohol in the hispanic community only affects them occasionally. Hispanics are known for their partying and underage drinking, however throughout the article they are comparing both hispanic and non-hispanic. It seems to be that non-hispanics drink more that hispanics do when it comes to hispanics drinking. "Puerto ricans and Mexican americans tend to have more relaxed attitudes about drinking than Cuban Americans."
