Personal Connection
Throughout my childhood and now reaching adulthood life I always loved music. Ever since I was young my grandpa let me participate in cultural activities and I'm thankful for him allowing me to. Both of my grandparents Cecil Zamora and Joyce Zamora helped me shape who I am. They helped me speak the language and helped me understand the importance of my life in general. It was during the 8th grade when my other grandfather Marvin Lovato helped me realize the importance of keeping the tradition going for the "hahn" and ever since that lecture he gave me something snapped inside me that pushed me to try and learn as much as possible and so far its going really good. I just hope to shed the light on Native American music and how it helped influence many other music genres based here in America. This a type of type of music that is not talked about as much.

Sharing One Skin
By Jeanette Armstrong
She explained the four selves that are with the Okanagan people which are physical self, emotional self, spiritual self, and intellectual self. The 4 ways show how the Okanagan people lived. Without understanding yourself as a person you are lost and not as one. It doesn't allow you to be “whole." Towards the end of the story she explains how each person was born into a family and a community. you would belong and have roles responsibilities to further your role in the community and without community we are truly not family and we are not people.
Music

Since the earliest times of creation to the most recent times of conclusion, Native American music has always been overshadowed. Many early settlers saw the Native American music as foolishness. During the earliest of times, Native American music was recorded or even written down by the white man. As time went on other types of music were on the rise in what we now know as the USA. Most of today's music was inspired by the Native American culture and music. Not only did we have unique music but our music we sang and made captures aspects of life, we also had unique instruments that stay unique to this day. I just dont think native american music is recognized as good as other music is. We need to shed more light on our native american music and culture.

Appreciating Native American Music
by Julitte Appold
Rather it was the instruments, or the melodies that influenced the music over the world, it had a good impact. I hate when people try to deny the fact that native American music influenced what we know as today's music. Not only us native Americans but many other places around the world also influenced today's music. But native tribes stay true to this day, and we still practice the tradition that was practiced hundreds of years ago. But in the USA music and other things are constantly changing. I just wish more people and media talked about native American music as much, as our music not only keeps the world revolving but we also capture the essence of life.

I think native american music does really keep the world in cycle, and help any form of life prosper. I like to think that the native american music keeps the universe in tact, and keeps the gods happy. With happy gods the rain comes, and with the rain a beautiful green land will be born. Most of our native american songs are sung to our gods asking for exactly what I explained.
