Tragedy HITS HOME!
The reason I chose this topic is because I can connect and relate to this. I lost a dear family member to gun violence. The effects of losing a loved one to gun violence is a hard thing to live with. Many people suffer in silence and sadness. Guns can leave people in a state of trauma, and can lead to depression. When tragedy hits home - it can break a family or bring a family together.
This article was about how it feels to be indian. Armstrong speaks about how families are stronger together. She states “ I cannot be separated from my place or my land”. From what she hand said about this was to tell that whenever we think about home we will always be ourselves and the same we are today.
This article talks about the names of our sacred lands (mountains, land, trails, rivers). How they hold our stories and history. The names of these places have changed over time and most of the sared names have been forgotten. The author says,” …repeating colonizer's names keeps the trauma of dispossession fresh…”. We relive this trauma everytime we see or say the colonizer’s names on our lands.
