The Benefits on Mental Health
Laguna/Acoma
I am interested in this topic because running has helped me threw alot mentally, when I was feeling mad or stressed I would go for a run and come back feeling and thinking a lot more better. Overtime my two grandmas that meant alot to me passed away, The only way I could feel that connection would be to go running. It feels as if they are right next to me encouraging me like they used too, along with guiding me on my runs. With all this said i had learned that running is more than just getting from one place to another, Its a way of prayer to ask for anything weither its to make you feel better mentally or the well-being of someone else.

Armstrong Summary
In the article they talk about the Okanagan people. They are a Native civilization back towards the northwest almost by Washigton. In the article it talks about how the Okanagan people have 4 different ¨selves¨. The first one that they recognize is the physical self, The physical self is mainly dependent on the part of ourselves. They also consider them as a ¨part of the earth. Next is the emotional self, Thinking-intellectual and finally spiritual self. The spiritual self is the most important one because they consider this between ourselfe and the higher power in yourself.
How place names impact, by who they were and what they were about. What I mean by that is if that person was a strong nobile person. Then the person who is going to that place should be prepared for it to be a long and hard ¨journey¨. If it were to be named after a not so good person then that is usually not a good place to go too. Along with that it also sets the boundaries on how far you should go and the respect you pay to the area. With that said, most of the time the names of places are a reminder of how you should carry and respect yourself in these different places.

The article was about a little pueblo boy, and he was very entied with his culture until his parents sent him to boarding school. She was about 9 when they went to him, He was from the Cochiti pueblo. He was happy that he's a pueblo kid, He would always meet/greet the sun in the morning every morning. When she was sent to his parents had no idea what they were sending him to. When he was there it was like they were beating the culture out of him. When she returned back with her family she felt different, it was hard for her cause she had forgotten her culture and it was very difficult for her to balance both of them together.
In the passage ¨Running as a prayer they talk about the history of running and the message behind it. With that said they run for the people who cannot (Disabled, sick, etc....). It gives the people a sense of hope almost. When you run you are supposed to pray for the well being of everyone with only good hopes and prayers for everyone. They talk about how in the morning they greet the sun every morning. The history behind running from place to place to message people or to gather resources for the community. Along with that knowledge on your land, Along with how your body truly works and how much it can handle.

Running was a very strong important thing back in the days, Not only was it a way to deliver messages but during this time it was their only way of transportation. With that said they also held records when they go and run. Like in some of the examples that I have provided. When they run tehy set goals for themselves either for a reason of messages or for a new personal record for themselves.

Scientists prove that running is not only food for your body but for your mind and brain. With that said, They say when you go for a run really you are really taking your brain out for a run. You brain is basically a muscle so it moves just like the rest of your body. Running can be really beneficial especially if you have a hard time concentrating or just sitting still. It is also proven that running can make ¨new brain cells". You brain need ¨Time for its self¨ so when you run to clear your head your actually growing your brain along with all your senses when you run long distance especially. At first it will hurt but as you proceed you notice that eventually it gets easy for you along the way and it doesn't bother you as much as it did when you first started running.
In most middle age adults suffer from obesity, Which is a lack of motivation. With that said it causes the person to lose motivation for his/her overall health. Which then effect the younger kids and future generation by getting that mindset, That it is okay to be lazy or there wont be ant consequences. Running can do a lot for your overall health by allowing your muscles to get exercise everyday. Next being outside can help improve the strength of your immune system. Overtime as you practice you will see a difference in the way you see yourself along with the way you carry yourself. Overall it helps improve your confidence in yourself.

Ku Stevens is a native American runner who belies alot in what he has. He didnt grow up the best, But once he learned where is priorities where and to keep moving twords them. He soon learned that he was very fortunate to be alive and to be Native American. So he stated running for the people before them. Since his father was one fo the kids in the Native American boarding schools. He said that his father escaped from there when he was 8 and all he did was run until he returned back home. So he runs for his identity to remeber who he is and where he comes from. He also says he runs to get Native Americans recognized. To let people know that we are still here being as strong as we can be.
Danielle has gone all over the world to multiple areas. One thing that she says she notices is that regardless where she went, She always saw someone rimmomg. She said that it could be warm or it could be cold but regardless they are running their hardest. She also states that there is so much ¨Drama¨ going on in this world but one thing that brings us together is running. Although you may not like them or get along with some other people. We all share one thing and that is the same passion we have for running.

A man who has not ran in over a year who is usually a seasonal runner, It trying it our with a group of people. Running with a group of people who are supportive does not only feel good but it helps with a lot of the mental fights that happen when you run. He was running at a very steady pace where you are allowed to talk to one another. When you do that it helps your mind not feel like it's going to die, Which then helped him to go farther and feel like it was nothing. When you run with a support group you find that it is a lot easier to run long distances. As he stated ¨If it wasn't without them I would have never ran that far for that long.

My action plan was to try and get people to get motivated to go out and running. To me McFarland was a good movie and more of my inspiration to run. Especially seeing the danny diez part, I played this movie in hopes that I can get people to think of running the same way as me. Along with that I am trying to find new ways to encourage people to run and watch out for their mental health.
