My Personal Connection:
My reason for picking this topic is because I want our younger generation to know there is a better route than drugs and alcohol. As natives I feel like we get caught in those type of things even if it's not attend. Also because I feel like sports can be a big outlet to anything. It's a hobby that brings happiness to you mentally, sports can be a stress reliever in my opinion. Using sports as an alternative activity which can keep you out of trouble, doing sports can be a time management because of the time that goes into it rather than making bad decisions.

Sharing One Skin :
Jeanette Armstrong
There are a lot of meanings within this essay that all connect to the Okanagan tribe. She talks a lot about the Okanagan tribe and how their tribe is physically, mentally, spiritually connected to the earth from all aspects of their life revolving around the earth and land. They also believed that all people were as one, they all shared one skin. A way I connect this to my people and how we were connected to the land and things around us. Especially the spiritual side, I feel like our people have the four sacred mountains and that's how our people are spiritually connected to the land.

How Place Names Impact The Way We See Landscape:
B. Toastie
The article states how lands are connected to our identity and our relation to the environment. through our landscapes but also from stories and teachings that are getting passed down within one's community. There are some stories where we can't understand which landscape they belong to and also where they originated from. The way I looked at these things was in my culture way, how much my people are connected to the land. A part of our land's importance is the sacred ways and all things that go behind it and including teachings and stories. Our four sacred mountains are a good example of land that we pray to, our people have praised our sacred lands that came from our creation story since the beginning of time. We have so many stories that connect us as people to the land.

And Then I Went To School:
Joe Suina
Josina had a huge connection to his Pueblo and also to his grandmother. leaving his home to go to school with a big transition for him, it was difficult because he was raised there his whole life. It is basically like leaving your whole life and identity. Being from a native tribe it's very important to be proud of who you are and where you come from. A huge connection to this article is from my own personal life. I had to leave my family and an environment that I loved and who and it was part of me and my identity. a big connection is with his grandmother, I feel that bond with my mother. having a person that has always been there that you talk to face to face and my home environment is a big comfort zone

Alcohol:
By Holona Ochs

Colonists brought habits to the wrong people because once Indians got a hold of alcohol, our people became so familiar with it that it became so widespread and drinking habits started. All the reasons and factors of how people are affected on all levels were connected to violence, oppression, , dis and the loss of self-determination we're all reasons why native started to consume alcohol in alcohol-related problems like a huge effect on our people by having high death rates of our people because of alcohol.

By Ed Latimore
The video talks about his alcohol journey. Telling a big reason why he drank was because of emotions, feeling lonely and depressed. He also said that he had got caught in this cycle of trying to become sober. Which made it harder to stay sober. until he realized he needed to lean to his identity by remembering who he was but also forgetting his past identity that was connected to alcohol. He did that by doing new activities which became his new identity, by meeting new people and building connections that led to a sober lifestyle.

Refuse to use drugs and alcohol
By Lafarge lake
In the video it talks about the uses and reasons behind youth drug use. Mentioning a lot of valid points on why kids are getting caught up on drugs, it being around the environment a lot. Also that as adults we could be role models and be a guidance for them. Stating that there is a low rate of action that is being done to help. A solution would be to knowledge the problem and talking but also guiding programs for those in need.
