Often Valentine’s Day is looked at as something couples adore and those without a partner dread. It’s often seen as a reminder of being single, or a reminder of loneliness, but it doesn’t have to be. While Valentine’s Day is often a way to celebrate romantic love, it can also be any other kind of love. It’s a time when we can express care for those in our life and ourselves, regardless of relationship status. So, in the spirit of expressing love for those around us, I’d like to offer up some ideas for who to celebrate with on Valentine’s Day when you’re single.
What better people to show your love to than your family? They’re the people who have been with you through thick and thin for your whole life. Write a card for your parent, buy a box of chocolates for your sibling, or give your pets some extra treats. Any way you can show appreciation for your family will be sure to bring them some joy on Valentine’s day. Even just spending a little more quality time with them can mean the world, especially on a day meant to celebrate the love we have for others.
Your friends are the people you get to choose to spend time with, so why not show them some love during this time of appreciation? Go out to the movies, hang out in downtown Exeter, or just talk a little bit more in school than you normally would. It feels great to know that you’re cared about, so giving your friends a sign you care about them could go a long way. Taking some time to show you enjoy being around them and you want to spend more time with them is a fantastic way to show your love this Valentine’s Day.
With all the love going around on Valentine's Day, it would be great to take a moment to treat yourself! Show yourself some care and love. Pick a day to sleep in, take a long bath to help relax, or reserve time to do something you enjoy. Self-love is often forgotten about among the hustle and bustle of Valentine’s Day, so now is the perfect opportunity to remind yourself of how great you are. Maybe that self-love comes along with celebrating with others, or maybe it’s about taking time to be alone to decompress. Regardless of how you choose to celebrate, it’s important to remember to show yourself some love!
