A conflict of interest arises when an employee’s personal interests, financial or otherwise, interfere with—or appear to interfere with—the professional responsibilities, decision-making processes, or policies of the Paramus Board of Education. All employees are expected to act in the best interests of the District and to uphold the highest standards of integrity and impartiality in the execution of their duties.
All employees are expected to act in the best interests of the District and to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness, and impartiality in the execution of their duties.
Employees must exercise sound judgment and take proactive measures to avoid any situation that may create a real or perceived conflict of interest. This includes refraining from activities, relationships, or financial dealings that could compromise, or reasonably be perceived to compromise, their professional objectivity and commitment to the District.
Employees are strictly prohibited from using privileged or confidential District information for personal gain or for the benefit of any external individual, business, or organization. Any misuse, unauthorized disclosure, or exploitation of such information constitutes a serious breach of ethical conduct and District policy, and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Employees are required to promptly disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest to the Human Resources Department as soon as they become aware of it. Disclosure allows the District to assess the situation and take appropriate measures to mitigate risk, ensure impartiality, and maintain transparency.
In addition, employees are encouraged to report suspected conflicts of interest involving colleagues or supervisors. All disclosures and reports will be handled with the highest degree of confidentiality and will be thoroughly reviewed by the Human Resources Department in accordance with District policy and applicable law.
Violations of the District’s Conflict of Interest policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, depending on the severity and nature of the infraction. The Board of Education reserves the right to impose appropriate corrective measures or remedies as necessary to safeguard the integrity of District operations and to maintain public trust.
This policy applies to all employees, regardless of title, tenure, or position within the District. The standards outlined herein are grounded in the ethical obligations established under the applicable Board of Education policies and are intended to guide conduct consistently across the organization.
