In accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:9B-4.3(c) and related statutory requirements, all employees of the Paramus Public School District, including certified staff, are required to report specific legal and professional incidents that may affect their eligibility for continued employment or certification.
All employees must notify the Superintendent of Schools in writing within fourteen (14) calendar days of being arrested or indicted for any crime or offense in any jurisdiction. The employee must provide:
The date of arrest or indictment
A description of the charge(s) filed
Certified employees must also notify the Superintendent of the disposition of any charges within seven (7) calendar days of the disposition date.
Failure to comply with these mandatory reporting requirements may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, and may be reported to the State Board of Examiners.
All certificate holders are required to report to the Superintendent any suspension or revocation of a license, certificate, or other professional authorization issued by any state or federal agency or governing body. Such notice must be submitted within seven (7) calendar days of the employee's receipt of notification of the suspension or revocation.
This report must include:
The date of the notice of suspension or revocation
The name of the issuing agency
A detailed explanation of the basis for the action
As part of the certification application process, all candidates must disclose whether they have any criminal conviction(s), in New Jersey, any other U.S. state, or any foreign jurisdiction.
Candidates with prior convictions are required to complete a disclosure form approved by the New Jersey Secretary of Education, detailing the nature and circumstances of each offense. The Board of Examiners or its designee will review the information provided and determine whether the conviction(s) warrant a denial of certification.
In making its determination, the Board will consider:
The provisions of the Rehabilitated Convicted Offenders Act (N.J.S.A. 2A:168A-1 et seq.)
Whether the conviction constitutes a disqualifying offense under N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1 et seq.
Certified and Non-Certified applicants are reminded that full transparency is a condition of both employment and professional licensure. Failure to report disqualifying events may result in disciplinary action by the District and/or action by the New Jersey Department of Education.
