The Board of Education provides eligible employees with medical and prescription insurance through its participation in the School Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). Employee health benefit contributions are required in accordance with all applicable New Jersey statutes. Enrollment in the SHIF extends to eligible dependents, including a spouse, civil union partner, eligible same-sex domestic partner, and/or eligible children, as defined by the School Health Insurance Fund.
Employees who receive medical and prescription insurance through the District’s enrollment in the School Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) are likewise subject to the required employee health benefit contributions.
For ten-month employees hired prior to the start of the academic year, medical coverage will commence on September 1. If a ten-month employee begins employment after the first day of school, a sixty (60) day waiting period will generally apply before medical coverage becomes effective.
For twelve-month employees, medical coverage will typically begin following a sixty (60) day waiting period from the employee’s official start date.
