Creative Self-Portraits

This week we will continue with our "All About Me" unit from Week 3. When you made your collages I learned about some of the things you like. Your creative self-portrait will let me get to know you even better. We are going to draw half of a self-portrait. A portrait is a picture of a person and a self-portrait is a picture of ourselves. With this project we are going to draw half of your face. On the other half you are going to draw your interests. Interests are things that you like.

The first step is to take a piece of white paper and draw (in pencil) an oval shape for a face.

Then you should draw two lines under your oval that will be your neck.

Next you should draw shoulders.

Now you are ready to draw half of your face. You can either fold your paper in half (so you only see one side) or you can do what I did. I took a piece of paper and covered half of myself. It does not matter which side you cover. Your self-portrait can be on the right side or the left side. Make sure you draw an eye, an ear, half of a nose, half of a mouth and hair.

Now you want to see the entire paper so either unfold it or remove the paper that was covering half of your artwork. The next step is to draw your interests on the other side of the paper. Think about your favorite foods, colors, sports, subjects and other things you like. Draw lots of things until that half is full.

Lastly you will color in your creative side. I used crayons but you can use whatever you have at home. You do not have to color in your self-portrait half unless you want to.
