Line Windsocks

We are going to continue our unit on line which we studied in Weeks 1 and 4. Using what we learned, we are going to make windsocks. First let me explain what a windsock is. A windsock looks like a giant sock. It measures wind speed and direction. Many people have windsocks as decorations in their home. Our windsock we make today can be hung up in your home! Here is what a windsock looks like:

Do you remember when in Week 1 we drew different lines across our paper? Well this week we are going to draw lines but they can be anywhere on the paper you would like. You should begin by taking a piece of white paper and draw lines all over your paper. First do this in pencil and after you can trace with craypas and then paint with watercolors. If you do not have these supplies, use what you have at home.

When your artwork is dry, you are ready to turn it into a windsock! Our next step is to add strips of paper on the back of our line paintings. You can use construction paper or tissue paper. If you want you can fold your strips of paper into zig-zags or leave them straight. These should be glued or taped on the bottom of the paper.

Now we are ready to close our windsock. Roll one end of the paper over to meet the other end. Tape, staple or glue it closed. Please have an adult help you with this. The last step after this is to make a handle on the top. You can use a strip of paper or a string. Then you are ready to hang your line windsock up!
