Week 10

Reflections Through Sunglasses

A reflection is when light bounces off an object. If the surface is smooth and shiny like glass, water or metal, we will actually see what the person is looking at. This week we are going to look at reflections that we see in the lens of sunglasses. Look at the photograph above - Can you see the person taking the picture? That is because the sunglasses are like a mirror. This is a reflection.

Now look at the photograph below. What is the reflection you see in the sunglasses? If you said two people standing on the sand in front of a sunset you would be correct!

Here is another photograph where we see a reflection. What do you see?

Ready to make your own reflection in sunglasses? Great! You should start with sunglasses on a piece of paper. You can draw the sunglasses yourself or use a template. Here is a template you can use. If you want, feel free to download a different template online. Simply type "sunglasses template" to get lots of choices.

Now think about what you are looking at through the sunglasses. Is there a baseball game going on? Maybe you're at the playground. After you decide what you are going to draw as your reflection, start drawing in pencil. You can color it in afterwards. Make sure what you draw in one lens is similar or the same as the other one. See my examples below:

Feel free to record a video of your artwork in my Flipgrid from week 6. Share what you create with your friends!
