Week 2

A New Day

This week's lesson is based on the artwork of Romero Britto, a Brazilian artist. He creates Pop Art which we previously studied in class. Remember, Pop Art is art that uses popular subjects so everyone can relate to the artwork and enjoy it. It is meant to be fun which Romero Britto definitely shows in his artwork! His artwork also has many patterns which we have looked at closely when we did our Zentangles project. As you know, patterns are when we repeat something over and over. One of the reasons people love the artwork of Romero Britto is because they are full of bright colors. Look at the examples below of some of Romero Britto's artwork:

Love Love

Island Current

Spring Again

Hide & Seek

Back In Time

Outdoors Cat

For our project this week, we are going to make our own version of Romero Britto's "A New Day."

Take a piece of white paper and draw some mountains on the bottom. You should draw the entire picture in pencil before you trace it with a black marker.

Next, draw some hearts on the top of the paper. Your hearts can be different sizes.

Next, draw straight lines on the top of the paper. Some of the lines should go right through the hearts. Then you should start adding designs and patterns to your mountains.

Now you are ready to add designs and patterns to the top of the page.

Once you are finished drawing in pencil, trace all the pencil lines with a black marker. Then you are ready to add color! Color in your piece of artwork with whatever materials you have at home. My example is colored with crayons but feel free to fill it in with paint or markers instead.
