This week's theme for our Google Meet was "Animals." We looked at artist Jeff Koons' "Balloon" series. Here are some of the sculptures that he made:
Balloon Dog
Swan, Rabbit, Monkey
Tulips
For my project we focused on "Balloon Dog." To start, take a piece of construction paper (any color) and fold it in half once, then twice, then three times. Draw an oval and cut out the oval (keeping the paper folded) to get 8 ovals.
Since you only needed 7 ovals, take the last oval and draw a small triangle (for the nose) and a small rectangle (for the tail). Then cut out the triangle and rectangle.
Trace each of the shapes with your black marker. They should each have a thick black line.
Now you should take a marker that is the same color as your paper (except darker). Make a curved line on one side of each oval. Take your marker and make a straight line on one side of your triangle and a long side of your rectangle. These lines you just drew show the shadows.
Now on the opposite side of each shape you should draw another line in white craypas (or crayon). These lines show the reflection in the balloons.
At this point (if you are in Kindergarten or First Grade) we put the balloon dog together on any color background paper. This is what the final balloon dog should look like. (If you are in Second grade, skip ahead to see how to create the background.)
Kindergarten and First Grade Balloon Dog
If you are in Second Grade, I would like you to create a background. Take any color paper (that is different than your balloon dog) and using a black marker or crayon, draw some buildings with windows.
Then take a green piece of paper and rip the top to look like trees. Glue this piece of paper on the bottom of your buildings.
Now add some black squiggles on the trees and white clouds above the buildings.
Ready to put your balloon dog together on your background? Wonderful!
