The Dot

Hopefully all of you have watched the video I posted last week in the section "Fun Activities for Everyone" showing the book "The Dot." If you have not, please click below to watch it.

Now you can see why I love this book! This week we are going to make pictures that start with one black dot. This black dot will mean different things for each of you. Let's start with a black dot on a white piece of paper. You can hold the paper any way you want and put the dot anywhere on the paper. It can be drawn with a marker or crayon. It can also be made out of construction paper and glued onto the paper.

Now that I have my black dot I can draw a picture using the black dot. You should start with pencil and then you can trace or color in your picture. I decided to leave my picture black and white.

See how I used the black dot to make a flower? Here is another example:

That's right! A balloon! Here are 2 more examples:

Can you guess what the dot turned into? In the first example, I drew an animal. In the second example, I drew an ice cream cone. Yum!

So now it is your turn to create a picture from one single black dot. What will you make? Everyone's picture will be different just like every one of you is different! I can't wait to see what you come up with! Remember, you can always e-mail me your artwork. I would love to see it!
