This week's lesson: Stained Glass Windows

Stained Glass is when color is added to glass with metallic salts. The colored glass can then be made into stained glass windows. Pieces of glass are arranged to form patterns or pictures. These beautiful windows allow sunlight to shine through and light up a room with colors!

This week you should create your own stained glass window. Here are the steps to make your own piece of stained glass artwork:

1. Think about something simple you can make a picture of. An example of this is a flower.

2. Create the simple picture out of construction paper. For my example, I made a stem, leaves and flower.

3. Before gluing each piece onto a background paper, cut up each piece into a few pieces and glue with a little space between them.

4. After you create your picture, cut up a color you have not used and glue pieces around your picture.

As you can see, your artwork can have a few pieces glued on or many pieces. That is up to you!

If you do not have construction paper at home, use whatever materials you can find. You can make the colored pieces with white paper and crayons. You can even make the pieces from pictures in magazines or wrapping paper. Lots of ways you can create this artwork!
