This is a biography about my great grandfather.

First of all his name was Cornelius Johannes Van Der Merwe (nickname Mac) and he was born on 23 August 1917 in South Africa.

As a kid, he was one of 7 that their parents had. as a child, he was quite energetic and mischievous for his age as well.

While he was alive he worked as a firefighter and ambulance driver which gained him a lot of respect from the general community.

he was married and had three children, the middle one was my grandma Ester Barnard

At his work, he was quite famous for his incredible driving skills and he was usually the first one called for going on missions he also was never in an accident and was responsible for training many new recruits of the station.

In his free time, he liked to play snooker every so often and he has never been away from South Africa. He was well respected by lots of people around him including colleagues and such but sadly passed away in October 1977.

He could speak 3 languages while he was alive which are English Afrikaans and south Sotho. In his spare time he enjoyed going fishing and camping out in the wild.
