James Henry Douglas Bond was born in Taihape New Zealand in the early 1900s. He was the first son of Estella Star Bond and Henry Dozel Bond and had a brother named Ian Bond who passed away last year and was my loving uncle Ian.
He spent most of his life living in the small town of Taihape which is a town that is found in the central north island. There he spent his whole life working in his father's jewellery/watch repairing business. This business is quite important in my family history because it has been passed down to 3 generations. James, Henry and my grandad Murray. It is called Bonds Jewellers and still stands today.
During his teenage life, he began to like running marathons and cross country races at his school. And as he grew older he began to hold many marathon and athletic events in the region.
He once visited Sydney Australia to watch the commonwealth games in 1938. After that, he decided to stop his love for running and decided to play golf afterwards as his favourite sport.
He was quite famous in the community as he was given a queen’s service medal during world war II as he worked on the navy ships that sailed out around the waters of New Zealand to mine sweep the ocean floor. He is also famous in the community as he owns a very old business and also for many of the marathon/athletic events he has held in the region.
