Matasifa Alona
INTRODUCTION
My Great Gran is Matasifa Alona. She is part of my mums side of the family. Great Gran is 83, still alive and lives in Glenfield. She lives with my God Mother and my sister who is 14. Great Gran is kind, her mana is very big and she is so much fun to be around. I havent been able to spend much time with her over the past few years due to covid - this is why I decided to choose her for my whakapapa inquiry.
EARLY LIFE
She was born in 1939 in Niue. Great Gran grew up as an only child. The village she grew up in is called Vaiea, in Niue. Great Gran was never lonely growing up as she was always around her cousins. Because the school system was very different back when she was young, Gran did her best to learn many topics and contributed by helping others in times in needs. My Great Gran has always been, and continues to be to this day, very kind and honest all the times.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Great Gran has always taught us to be the best versions of ourselves. We will forever remember Great Gran for her cooking - the dish I enjoy the most is her beef and potatoes, sewing - she sews many things and enjoys incorporating flowers, her kind words and above all else her mana. My Great Gran is not a fan of photos and will also get grumpy if we take photos and she has not had time to do her hair!
CONCLUSION
My Great Gran will always be special to me. I will keep memories of spending time with her and helping her do jobs around the house in her old age. She will always be known as generous (as she gifts me $20.00 when I see her) I use this money to buy lunches and treats for my family. Her mana will always carry on within our family.
