My Nana is Lynette Jelas.
She was born in Wellington on the 23rd of January 1950. Her last name before she got married is Maiden and her married last name is Jelas and she wasn’t given a middle name. She had a brother named Wayne and a sister called Wendy. My nana’s mum died when my nana was 9, she got adopted after leaving Wellington and now she has another 3 sister’s named Nelda, Karen, and Helen and she had another brother named Craig. She went to Orewa primary and then Epsom Girls Grammar. She grew up in Wellington, Taupiri, Ngaruawahia, Orewa, and Ruakaka and she still lives in Ruakaka right now. She lives really close to a beach and she has horses right next to her house. She had 2 dogs named Tina and Snowy. And one cat named Tiddles.
My nana always helped my poppa and make his lunch for him the night before and when he was sick she tried to cheer him up and helped him a alot. She always helps everyone like when people are sad she trys to cheer them up.
She loves to paint and she is really good at it.She used to do painting class but she doesn’t do it anymore. I'm not really sure why she doesn’t do it anymore. I think it might be because she wants to spend more time with family or something, but I'm not sure. I don’t think she paints that much anymore but when I go up to her house sometimes which is in Ruakaka I sometimes want to paint so I ask her if we can paint together. She works at a hospice shop. I think she works there on Wednesdays and maybe another day but I can’t remember.
She also likes to knit, I also wanted to get into knitting and so she showed me how to do it and I started last year sometime and in the school holidays when we went up to her house I took up and ball of cotton that I had already started and I brought one up for me that I already started as well and we both did some and then when I came back down to my house she kept one and worked on it while I was gone, and I took one to keep working on but I had some other plans too so I was busy but yeah I could have done some at night before bed but I didn’t want to because it hurts my fingers sometimes and then last night my mum video called her and she showed me how much she has done and she had done a lot and she has some other cotton and for one or two she mixed the colours and I really liked it and some she just did the colour cotton I gave her, and mine is the same as when we came down so I will have to start working on it again, but i want to make it into a blanket to we are just doing like little bit at a time and then we will sow it all together once we have done enough.
My nana is still alive. I will remember her as a kind, fun, cheerful person and I love her a lot.
