Vangueria infausta
Vangueria infausta
The Vangueria infausta is a deciduous hairy shrub that grows up to 8 metres. It is best known for its fruits, which come up about three years after planting. They are enjoyed by adding the pulp to water, or to make a Masai variety of porridge. In Kenya, this tree is most commonly found from the coast to Mt. Elgon, in bushland and along streams. The tree is healthiest either in the open or in partially shaded areas, especially under acacias. Besides the widespread enjoyment of Vangueria infausta fruit, parts of this tree can be used for tool handles, utensils, medicine, and fodder.
