Screbera alata
Screbera alata
Also known by its Kikuyu name Mutoma, the Screbera alata grows quickly given the condition of soil, from 9 to 25 metres in height. Though beautiful and graceful to look at, the wood itself is quite hardy, heavy, and makes excellent firewood. It is well-suited as a firewood crop for highland farmers, who might also intercrop it with arabica coffee. Finally, the Mutoma’s bark and leaves have been known to be useful in folk medicinal practices.
