Prunus Africana
Prunus Africana
One would be most likely to encounter the towering, 25 metre Prunus Africana from Western to Southern Africa, but it is also found here in Kenya. Common in the Kakamega and Nyahuru forests as well as Limuru and Kericho areas, it grows slowly, but once mature is very useful in the pharmaceutical industry. The bark is uniquely suited for managing complications associated with prostate-ism, a benign enlargement of the prostate. Hollow Prunus Africana, also known by their Kikuyu name Muiri, make perfect dwelling-places for bees. This tree is becoming gradually rarer in the wild, but more popular in the agroforestry and afforestation communities.
—
When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field right up to its edge, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 19:9-10
