Writing Trees for Better Lives
Writing Trees for Better Lives
Friend,
Wendo is a place for us to better know our Creator and his Creation. As part of our digital arboretum project, we've asked local students at St. John's Secondary School to take part in reflecting on the restoration and beauty that has been stewarded here, through poetry. We pray these poems will bless you.

Nature, how beautiful you are —
I admire you and everything in you.
My environment:
Wild animals make tourists come
and bring foreign exchange
to help our country.
Your trees are so beautiful:
Some trees have beautiful flowers,
Others have fruits which we eat.
Your birds sing in the morning,
Not only songs, but also sounds
The trees provide us food, fruits,
and habitats to live in.
Without you, where would we be?
I love you, for your kindness.
I appreciate you so much, so I promise
I will try and take care of you
Each and every morning when I wake up.
My environment, I love you.
–Beatrice Wanjiru Njoki
When walking home with my friends,
We were passing through the trees.
Pink flowers, dust road.
There was dust on their shoes.
We were seen.
A group of people came towards us.
The birds were singing.
—Gabriel Mwangi Njuguna
When walking on my way to school
I feel happy viewing the wonderful nature
Created by God himself
Branches of trees hanging over
While flowers fall down from the trees.
How beautiful they are!
—Eugine Makori Muriithi
Walking from home to school
Each and every morning
There is fear and cold air:
I feel curious, I must do it.
The long distance walk,
each and every single day.
Things I see and live with each day:
They inspire me, about my tomorrow
More and more
—B. Wanjau
I was on my way walking around
On a hot, sunny, unhappy day.
I met with some birds
With black and white feathers
Who like flowers and playing
With their friends.
They enjoy themselves.
—Njeri Mary Wairimu
The environment was very clean.
The birds of the air were singing melodious songs, and the air was very clean.
Everybody could enjoy the air of that place.
The trees were very green, with red flowers.
At the road there were many cars with different colors, and the cars make the road very beautiful.
They bring everybody to work on that road, because of the clean air and the beauty of the trees.
—Mbugua Isaac Kimondo
I was walking in a windy valley,
cold and freezing,
Snowing everywhere.
Trees with hands like an old man
With purple flowers.
It was too late,
And the bird started singing
In the middle of the thick mist,
The sun tries to penetrate through,
And makes it.
—Sabu Marugu Samuel
When I was walking down to school
Sweet, melodious songs were being sung
By the beautiful birds hanging on the branches
Of the tree. The world was full of fresh air.
The bright green environment was seen
All over.
—Njunge Danson Kamau
The environment was cool and the birds were singing their song.
The trees were quiet.
The insects were slowly going to their houses.
The road was quiet, silent.
—George Kimiri
On my way to school the waves of the tree calls upon someone to come closer.
They are just like Thompson Falls.
The branches of the tree swings from right to left, like a bride swinging her hips.
When I pick my fruit it is always as cold as ice.
The fruit is always red in color, just as red as beetroot.
—Mary Njoki Wahome
