Filicium decipiens
Filicium decipiens
This attractive dioecious Tree may reach 25m high. Bark may have orange underbark. This is a species of Filicium found in east Africa, Madagascar, India and Sri Lanka. It is planted as an ornamental tree. The Crown is densely rounded. Leaf scars are prominent on young glabrous (hairless) stems. No thorns are present and the straight Trunk does not develop a buttress. The initially smooth, greyish brown Bark may become rough and flaking, revealing an orange underbark. Useful Timber is obtainable from this tree. The Wood is hard and dense – although the trunk is relatively short. This is a very attractive tree with its fernlike leaves would be an asset to a suitable garden.
