Trichilia emetica
Trichilia emetica
In central Kenya, any communities highly regard the Trichilia emetica (Mururi, in Kikuyu) for its uses in beekeeping, furniture, and as medicine. Often occurring close to rivers throughout tropical Africa and in riverine savanna, this tree’s seeds can be crushed to produce an oil that prevents insect attacks on hives. You might even find one of these hives in the canopy of the Mururi, which produces some of the best honey in Kenya. The oil can also be fit for human use, particularly among the Tharaka as a skin moisturizer. However, by themselves the seeds of this tree are extremely poisonous. You’ll also find that woodcarvers and furniture makers enjoy using this material.

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
