Acacia lahai
Acacia lahai
In Kenya, the Acacia lahai is frequently used in construction because of its red, hard durable wood. It can range from a 3 to 15 metres and commonly exhibits rough brown or grey brown bark. A fast-growing tree managed by lopping, the Acacia lahai is essential when it comes to erosion control in wooded grassland and savanna areas. Its bark extracts are sometimes sprinkled on pottery to impart a reddish finish. Uniquely, this tree (called Mugaa in Kikuyu), is best used for skin eruptions in children, clearing toxicaemia in pregnancy, bowels, and also as an astringent. It can also be harvested for an edible gum.
—
You visit the earth and water it; you greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; you provide their grain, for so you have prepared it. You water its furrows abundantly, settling its ridges, softening it with showers, and blessing its growth. You crown the year with your bounty; your wagon tracks overflow with abundance. The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.
