PE DEPARTMENT RULES
General Rules
Outdoor footwear is not allowed in the Games Hall or Gymnasium
For reasons of illness or injury pupils must bring a note from parents/guardians with a brief explanation of the reason. If the injury/ illness is longer term a doctor/ physio not may be asked for.
Pupils must change into PE kit even if they have a medical note. This helps them to feel part of the class. They will be asked to help with simple tasks.
Pupils must not leave any valuables in the changing room. Put loose change in a purse, wallet or bag. Please put all valuables in the box.
Valuables must be collected before pupils change at the end of the lesson.
No T-shirts with provocative or offensive slogans.
No jewellery – no face piercings however stud earrings are acceptable.
No chewing in class.
Shoes to be tied on top of the tongue in a double knot so that shoes cannot be pulled off the feet.
Long hair must be tied back.
Asthma inhalers are to be carried at all times.
Epipens must be carried at all times.
You will have 5 minutes to change before and after lessons, please be punctual.
Equipment:
T-shirt (this must cover the shoulders and meet your bottoms), shorts, leggings, trackies, trainers, socks, towel, jumper/ jacket for outdoor lessons.
Outdoor trainers/football boots for outdoor lessons.
P.E. trainers (different from school shoes).
Kit in a bag with a spare bag for dirty shoes.
Equipment will vary depending on the activity and weather.
Homework Policy
· All homework is posted on the classes Microsoft team with the deadline.
· All homework must submitted before or on the deadline.
· If there is any reason you cannot submit on time you should speak to your teacher in advance to discuss a possible extension.
Curriculum
S1-S3 Broad General Education
Pupils in BGE will experience a range of practical activities and leadership roles over their 3 years within the PE department. We aim for these experiences to allow them to be successful in our senior phase courses.
All pupil’s will develop the skills seen on the left and will track their progress based on the benchmarks across activities.
The following physical activities will be used to deliver the S1-3 curriculum:

S3 Leadership
This course challenges and extends pupils beyond the core PE curriculum and prepares them for our certificated courses. The course consists of 4 units - An introduction to coaching (outdoor games), umpiring and officiating (basketball), planning and monitoring personal fitness (swimming and fitness suite) & analysing factors that impact on performance in sport (various activities).

National 5 PE
The National PE course challenges pupils with a particular aptitude in sport. The course allows pupils to enhance their skills in a range of activites with a view to evaluate, analyse and develop their knowledge of the factors that impact performance.
Entry Requirements
Completing the S3 Leadership through PE course or demonstration of Leve 3/4 attainment in core lessons.
Course assessment
2 internally marked performance assessments (60 marks)
Portfollio - extenally marked (60 marks)

Sport & Recreation
The Sport and Recreation course challenges pupils with an interest in developing key employability skills in a leisure industry setting. The course allows pupils to complete units which enhance coaching, personal fitness training, health and safety in the workplace and customer service.
Entry Requirements
Completing the S3 Leadership through PE course or demonstration of Level 3 or 4 personal and social skills.
Course assessment
4 internally marked practical unit assessments (pass/fail) with supporting written materials.

SCQF Level 6 Higher Leadership
Higher PE
The Higher PE course extends pupils with a particular aptitude in sport. The course challenges pupils to build upon their skills in a range of activities with a view to deepening their knowledge and ability to evaluate, analyse and develop high levels of personal performance.
Entry Requirements
Demonstration of strong attainment in National 5 PE. Some talented pupils may be able to crash this course. This will be at the discretion of the PE department.
Course Assessment
2 internally marked performance assessments (60 marks)
2hr 30m externally marked examination paper (60 marks)

Leadership
The Higher Leadership Award affords pupils with ambition the chance to join a team that works at the heart of our school and community. Accepting high levels of responsibility and having establised interpersonal skills is a must before embarking on this flagship course.
Entry requirements
Entry to this course is at the discretion of the school. Recommendations will be sought to determine candidate suitability based on skills displayed in the school and community

2 internally marked unit assessments (pass/fail) with extended written portfolios.
Progression routes
Positive career pathways beyond school that require high levels of responsibility, team work and leadership.
