Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1 ⭐
Describe your intentions and process plan
Our intention at the start was to recreate a famous housing using stacking, with multiple boxes stacked together to replicate the design structure.
WHAT am I making: A cuboid
HOW do I plan to do this: Make multiple cuboids and tie them slanted one on top of another
WHY (intention): To create 'balance' and 'illusion'
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
Ideation - The Spiral
The spiral was made using twisting and weaving to construct the idea of spiralation of our final idea
⭐
Base 'bridge' sculpture
We constructed something similar to a 'bridge' with triangular sides and a rectangular bottom
⭐
The spiral (no.2)
The first spiral was replaced but the original idea was to have 2 spirals hanging from the bridge
⭐
Bridge + spiral
The overall ideation was already constucted, but we wanted to showcase our inspiration, 'balance'
⭐⭐
Chaos 💥
We were running out of materials and did not know what to add, but the thought of weaving was brought up and we decided to use it to add complications and enhance the theme 'balance'
Second final draft
Weaving was done through the half of the sculpture to stabilise it and give it more balance to link it back to the theme
⭐⭐
Final draft - Top view
The measurements of the bottom could've been better and it was difficult to adjust at first, but after some cutting and retying, the structure was able to stand on it's own
🌟
Final draft - side view
Successfully troubleshooted the structure to allow it to stand and make the weaving look slightly neater - even with the shortage of materials
🌟
FINAL PRESENTATION
Frontal (on flat surface)
Title of Work: Spiralling Ascent
Year: 2024
Medium: Metal wires
Dimensions: 3D
Artist Statement: 50 words
The inspiration was the idea of "suspended building". A piece was misplaced in the process but the ideation was for the building to "fly". The path below on level ground allows for cars to pass while the "bridge" accomodates people living in the city. It resembles abstract building design that is livable and accessible, as well as environmentally friendly and socially considerable.

Peer Feedback
Use of Positive Language to Nurture and Empower
ONE PRAISE: 30 WORDS:
The design is truly special and captivating. The various shapes, each distinct in their form, are skillfully interwoven, creating a complex yet harmonious composition. This intricate blending of elements results in a unique design that draws the eye, inviting admiration for both its creativity and craftsmanship. The way these shapes interact and complement each other adds to the overall appeal, making the design not only visually striking but also deeply engaging.
Highlight the positive words used.
ONE POLISH: 30 WORDS
The design is too simple and should add more structures and make it more complex. The wires are also not that neat and should be more neater.
Describe the value-addedness to the impact of your peer's work based on your suggestion.z

What I have done
Ideation:
Create a building that is suspended
Implementation:
It will save space on the ground and have more places for greenery
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
That art is not related to builldings and structures in any form
...but Now i Think:
Art and buildings are actually combined in so many ways like the structures and how it affects the way the building looks

Mentor's Feedback (to be completed by your teacher)
PRAISE:
Very courageous to attempt a hanging style sculpture that could add interest due to its potential to swing and move.
POLISH:
If the design brief is a building structure, do focus on three-dimensional forms.
