Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan.
WHAT am I making: abstract art
HOW do I plan to do this: make the building stable enough while being able to support another structure on top
WHY (intention): synergise art and science
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
cylinder
Bending wire to make part of the structure
balancer
we made a cube-like figure and attached it to the bottom of the structure so it could balance
Long structure
we attached the long structure to the top to make it more abstract
knot
we tied knots to attach the structures together
front view of three main sculptures
we weaved the top half of the cylinder, the triangle side and the bottom of the cube and one side of the long structure
top view of three main structures
we completed the making the three main structures, cylinder, long structure and cube without the weavings
Three main structures
We completed making the three main structures, cylinder, long structure and cube without weavings
front view of completed sculpture
we put together the whole sculpture, adding a small cube at the bottom to balance it out, also weaving its top and bottom.
FINAL PRESENTATION
Frontal (on flat surface)
Title of Work: Synergy Ascendant
Year: 2024
Medium: wires
Dimensions: 20x45
Artist Statement: 50 words
This structure is deliberately abstract, composed of a series of interconnected geometric shapes that suggest movement and growth. The structure is not a literal representation of a building, but a space where the boundaries of what is possible are continually redefined.

Peer Feedback
Use of Positive Language to Nurture and Empower
ONE PRAISE: 30 WORDS
Their art work looks very neat and everything looks like it has been done meticulously and every shape compliments one another. Portraying a space for endless boundaries.
Highlight the positive words used.
ONE POLISH: 30 WORDS
They did not give up and worked together to add extra details and style to theri design. They also made adjustments when there was a problem. They were both very resilient in their work.
Describe the value-addedness to the impact of your peer's work based on your suggestion.
Team Review by Individuals
Name 1: Baocui
What I have done
Ideation: I found out how to put the sketch together
Implementation:
I weaved the wires together
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think: folding wires would be extremely difficult and i need to be talented in order to come up with ideas for the structure
...but Now i Think:
All i need in order to come up with an idea or sketch is imagination and folding wires is not that hard
Name 2: Xinghui
What I have done
Ideation: Sketched the draft for the sculpture
Implementation: Made most of the main parts of the sculpture
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
I used to think that sculpture must be made of concrete, clay or sturdy materials only.
...but Now i Think:
Now I know that even wired can be used to make sculptures.

Mentor's Feedback (to be completed by your teacher)
PRAISE:
Amazing that the final structure is well-balanced, having the largest form stacked at the highest level. A tiny hanging sphere gives the artwork a playful quality amidst its stoic presence.
POLISH:
The process photos leading to the final work could be crafted more seamlessly.
