Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan.
WHAT am I making: a machine-like building with a pyramid in the center
HOW do I plan to do this: build the base, then build towers then build sphere then build pyramid
WHY (intention): to show how two parties(represnted by the towers)when combined together(ideas)can form art
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
building the base
we built the rectangular base of the cuboid (base of our project)
coil of wire and half of base
created the coil by coiling a piece of wire (roughly 1m) to form the "spring".
weaving the base
weaved thin wires through the completed base to add some form of "shading" to it
weaved the coil
weaved wires up,down and across the coil in a disorderly manner to show unexpected outcomes
base of cube
created the base of a cube
formation of cube
we formed the cube
weaved the cube
weaved the wires closely together to form an opaque look to the cube
Tied all the shapes together
We used thin wires to secure the shapes in place as well as create that springing out of the tube look
FINAL PRESENTATION

Title of Work: Out Of The Box
Year: 2024
Medium: Wires
Dimensions: 30cm x 18cm
Artist Statement: 50 words
We designed a cube springing from a cylinder, inspired by the "jack in the box," symbolizing escape from dull school life. Movement shows the cube's struggle, while lines represent boundaries and norms. We used tying, stacking, weaving, and interlocking. We're satisfied with the result and learned perseverance.

Peer Feedback
Use of Positive Language to Nurture and Empower
ONE PRAISE: 30 WORDS
You guys were very descriptive in describing the process and i was able to understand it very clearly. The design is also very creative and your artist statement very clearly reflects on the design. There was also a good job done in the making of the design, including the weaving of the wires. Good job :D
Highlight the positive words used.
ONE POLISH: 30 WORDS
The weavings could be better, by weaving the thin wire closer together, you could make the sculpture look more complete, the weaved surfaces will look more real. The sculpture on top of the base could be bigger so that the sculpture's top would not look so empty.
Describe the value-addedness to the impact of your peer's work based on your suggestion.
Team Review by Individuals
Name 1: Danielle
What I have done
Ideation: designed the base and helped jiayi
Implementation: i buit the cylinder and weave it. I help jiayi weave part of the cube and weaved part of the base. I worked with jiayi to build the base.
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
art involved random movements and did not need much planning and accuracy
...but Now i Think:
art requies time and effort as well as precision to contrust a well designed piece.
Name 2: Jiayi
What I have done
Ideation: designed the model and measured the readings
Implementation: built the cube and weaved some of the shapes. I worked with danielle to construct and weave the base
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
abstract art was just very random and did not have any meaning.
...but Now i Think:
they require alot of thinking and deep thinking.

Mentor's Feedback (to be completed by your teacher)
PRAISE:
You were quick to adapt a different design as keeping the symmetry could prove to be tedious and limit creativity.
POLISH:
The latter idea (apart from your draft) could give you more room for creativity when your base have a better stability.
