Mondrian applied the principles of cubist composition to a natural subject that he was in the process of assimilating and working out in his own way. It created an almost sad and depressing picture.

The entire artwork is grey. Yet mondrian still managed to show emphasis and guide the viewers using the different tones of grey, instead of making everything just one shade, showcasing his skill in the artwork, and this is a very interesting aspect to me.

I would like to learn about how he variated the thickness of his brushstrokes between the foreground and the background to examplify his artwork.
