Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan.
WHAT am I making: a shoe like structure
HOW do I plan to do this:
WHY (intention): The intention is to incorporate elements of a child-like house (such as the 'cross' window) into this building to bring people's childhood back to life. The idea is that shoes are at the 'base' of the person, which sort of represents the childhood that becomes the 'base' of the human life.

Title of Work: A Child's Dreams
Year: 2024
Medium: Wires
Dimensions:
Artist Statement: 50 words
This work is about recreating the childlike imagination. The work, when seen from different perspectives are different products - when seen on the right side up, it appears to be a high heel, an item of adulthood, representing the child's hope of growing up. When flipped around, it appears to be a genie's lamp, a product of fantasy and representation of a child's innocence. The messy coiling illustrates the chaotic thought process of the child.

ONE PRAISE: 30 WORDS
I like the way the structure, from one side can be viewed as a genie lamp yet the other side as a high heel. I think that this is very creative because the shapes are very clear and the thin wires curling all around it compliments a child's fantasy based on the structure.
Highlight the positive words used.
ONE POLISH: 30 WORDS
The work creatively captures childlike imagination by transforming between a high heel, symbolizing growth, and a genie's lamp, representing fantasy, while its messy coiling illustrates the chaotic nature of a child's thoughts.
Describe the value-addedness to the impact of your peer's work based on your suggestion.
Team Review by Individuals
Name 1: Sheryl
What I have done
Ideation:
Idea for a shoe, at first it was the idea for cheese but it was taken by another team therefore we chose another random item to do and shoe was interesting
Implementation:
it ended up taking the shape of a high heel (and when flipped upside down it happened to look like a genie lamp which furthered our idea about a child)
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
i used to think abstract art wasnt better than actual paintings of people or oil paintings previously
...but Now i Think:
it has its own beauty and can be appreciated and can be fun in its own way and things should be appreciated for their uniqueness despite not being what we're used to

What I have done
Ideation:
idea stems from the childhood design and imagination, later became a high heel.
Implementation:
we used wires to tie together to evoke chaotic feelings in the artwork.
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
abstract art is strange
...but Now i Think:
requires a deeper understanding of the artwork itself in order to appreciate it, it is more feelings based rather than being able to tell what exactly it is.

Mentor's Feedback (to be completed by your teacher)
PRAISE:
I like the multiple perspectives your sculpture has to offer. Also the contrast provided behind comparing childhood (genie lamp) vs adulthood (high heels) show the thoughtfulness behind your work.
POLISH:
Your photos could be presented more clearly if taken against the white background photo booth.
