Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan.
WHAT am I making: Museum
HOW do I plan to do this: Took inspiration from my 3D abstract art in order to create a spindly museum
WHY (intention): To showcase the insider architecture of our works.
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
Spined base
-This is one of our bases that incorporate a solid spinal foundation into the artwork.
Main Body
-We created this taking inspiration from the esplanade dome (Spherical sector shape). We initially wanted to make a pyramid but after making a mistake in the bend we realised how nice this looked and decided to keep it and adapt our work
Extras
-Some of our additional materials that we did not incorporate
Final work
-Overall the process was enjoyable! We learnt many things on incorporating 2D spines and 3D units to make a shape, and we are very satisfied with our work.
FINAL PRESENTATION
Frontal (on flat surface)
Title of Work: The Spine Fort
Year: 2024
Medium: Thick and thin steel wire
Dimensions: 25 cm x 45 cm
Artist Statement: We are trying to present how the usage of spines and curves can result in an intricate structure. Our inspiration came from that of a turtle shell and the esplanade dome. I found both their anatomies online and I was inspired to showcase our work through the spindly spine. I am using intricate circular curvature to highlight certain aspects of the work by giving my parts volume and depth through the spines. Overall we are quite satisfied with our works, though they can be improved.

What I have done
Ideation: I came up with the main idea to use the turtle shell as our inspiration, as well as the spines and the base
Implementation: I folded most of the wire and created the structure.
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
That it would be immensely difficult to fold the wire regions and we could not create something of quality
...but Now i Think:
As long as we dedicated ourselves to the project we could accomplish any expression we wanted, which we did!
