Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan:
The intention is to make a futuristic and modern building by using abstract shapes that are "fused" together to form a futuristic overall look.
WHAT am I making:
We are making an inverted modern abstract building similar to marina bay sands where there are "suspending" blocks above the land. Hence, we used a base at the bottom to hold up two cylinders on top while marina bay sands has a big "plank" on top with two blocks supporting it at the bottom.
HOW do I plan to do this:
We will use 5 big cylinder and 2 small cylinder followed by a cuboid.
WHY (intention):
The cylinders are easy to insert into the cuboid and it will be more supported with a cuboid base so it does not fall.
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
Design draft 2
We thought since our first design draft was too plain-looking, we decided to add more different shapes to it.
Base
We connected the ends with a thin wire and used a plier to straighten the edges too.
Pillar
We build the rough shape of the pillar so it would be easier to modify it afterwards.
Heart pillar
We modified the shape of the wire by bending it with the pliers and made a circular base as it was easier to tie to and looks more aesthetic.
Connecting pillar to base
We used a lot of thin wires to properly connect the pillar to the base and also used a plier to straighten out the edges.
Pillars and Base
We finished connecting the pillars to the base using thin wires.
Making it 3D
We had to actually use teamwork to make the heart seem 3D using the thin wires to connect them together.
Final
We added an artist statement and improved on the thin wires curling around the structure.

Title of Work
Year: 2024
Medium: Wires
Dimensions: 3D and 2D
Artist Statement: 50 words
It is an interpretation of super trees at Gardens by the Bay where the Heart Towers represent super trees and the cuboid acts as a base to anchor the towers. We use the hearts because they represent the immense amount of love Singaporeans have for super trees.

Use of Positive Language to Nurture and Empower
ONE PRAISE: 30 WORDS
the concept is in a very local context, making the artwork relatable to its viewers. The coiling was done really skillfully, and adds texture to the artwork. Overall, the execution of the artwork was well done up, giving the artwork a very clean look.
ONE POLISH: 30 WORDS
the size of the hearts are not the same in terms of width which is a little inconsistent, but they're not very big and significant problems. it would be more consistent if the hearts are of the same width. perhaps more rounded surfaces can be used to convey a softer feeling to the artwork to bring out the 'love' idea?

What I have done
Ideation:
The elements to use
Implementation:
combining the elements structure together
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
They are rules and limitations to abstract art, we cannot do however we want and have to do according to it.
...but Now i Think:
They is no limitations for abstract art, you can be as creative as possible.
Name 2:
What I have done
Ideation:
The heart and combining the elements together
Implementation:
Made the hearts and base
Reflection (30 words)
I Used to Think:
Abstract art is just another type of art they are still commonality between different people's artwork
...but Now i Think:
Every artwork is unique the artist can be create and think out of the box. They can use different elements and principles to complete their artwork

Mentor's Feedback (to be completed by your teacher)
PRAISE:
It is interesting how the heart (super trees) came into being when you started exploring the wires.
POLISH:
The base could be a little more stable with a flatter contact with ground.
