Week 6: Design Draft
Making Abstract Sculpture
Design Draft 1
Describe your intentions and process plan.
WHAT am I making: Building
HOW do I plan to do this: Make the shapes one by one and connect them together
WHY (intention): to make an abstract building that is interesting and unique
Week 7 to 10: Process Photos of Wire Sculpting
From 2D to 3D
Sphere
Bent 2 thick wires into circles and combined them together before adding on thing wires to enchance the shape
Base structure
Used 1 thin wire to make half the base first
Cuboid
Used the remaining thick wire after making the base and used thin wires to connect the joints
Pyramid
Made the cuboid bigger than expected so we made the pyramid smaller
Attaching
Made a cyclinder and attached it to the middle of the base structure and then attached the cuboid to one side of it
Attaching
Attached the pyramid such that it is tilted and the base of it is touching the edge of the cylinder
Add on
Added 2 discs on the empty parts of the base structure
Weaving (Final)
Weaved some parts of the smaller wire structures with patterns to make it more pleasing
FINAL PRESENTATION
Frontal (on flat surface)
Title of Work: Going Downhill
Year: 2024
Medium: Metal wire
Dimensions: 35cm x 15cm
Artist Statement:
We are trying to show our creativity and that buildings need not be just a cuboid, buildings can be made up of various interesting shapes as well. We searched up famous buildings that are geometrically interesting and got inspired and got inspired to combine different shapes. By using different shapes, textures and patterns, we came up with our abstract building. We used tying, interweaving and overlapping to show our ideas. Overall, we are happy and satisfied as we have learnt to be ambitious, have self- discipline and persevere through, no matter how hard it may be.
