Boys' volleyball is the fastest-growing high school sport in the country, and hundreds of clubs across the country provide opportunities to improve and have fun. I love playing volleyball with my friends in open gym almost every day. I wish Menasha had an official boys volleyball team for school.
Boys' volleyball at Menasha High School is very complicated. People have been saying that it's like a volleyball club, and I wanted there to be an official school volleyball team at Menasha, but unfortunately, that is not the reality.
Boys' volleyball is hard for school districts to have all across the country. This is because volleyball is a fall sport and most guys at school districts are busy juggling two sports at the same time, for example, football or soccer and basketball. Most athletes at Menasha High School are already doing 2 or more sports. Not saying that they should quit their other sport just to do volleyball, I just wish more guys were willing to do volleyball instead of soccer or football.
Having volleyball as another option for athletes to do at Menasha would be difficult and would anger or enrage some people who have kids or are kids who go there. If they added boys' volleyball, there would be fewer people joining the soccer or football teams each year. I would assume that people wouldn't even drop soccer or football just to try a sport they might not even enjoy.
I hope one day boys' volleyball will become a reality at Menasha High School and more districts around the United States of America. “[Volleyball] is a game of intuition. Imagination. Improvisation. But most of all, of reciprocity. Of teamwork. There is no way to freelance in volleyball." -- Marv Dunphy
