Angelo Lozano, a senior at Menasha High School, started school a little differently than he had the previous years. He began his youth apprenticeship for MHS at the beginning of the school year- right away on September 5.
His first day of the apprenticeship was mainly working with his bosses and learning about the school building. His tour included areas the average student does not learn about, including the boiler system and how some of the machining within the school works.
Lozano enjoys the youth apprenticeship opportunity. “I feel like I have the ability to learn a lot more with everything being hands-on.”
The job opportunity has also helped Lozano gain insight on what he wants to pursue for his future career.
While working through his apprenticeship he has been able to meet new people and learn new things from them.
Taking on a youth apprenticeship comes with challenges. Lozano dealt with challenges of trusting himself- hoping not to break any work tools and making sure he didn’t overthink a situation.
“But everyone makes mistakes, and I got through it and overcame those problems,” Lozano said. “I can confidently say I know how to run a lot of equipment better than what I did.”
Lozano managed to overcome challenges by addressing them with his boss and asking any question if he was unsure about something. He made sure to ask questions on how to run the equipment, how to use them without breaking them, and he knows the dos and don'ts while running the machine and what to look out for when using them.

Lozano has mostly figured out what he wants to do with his life after high school, and feels he made a lot of self-improvements from this youth apprenticeship. He thanks his bosses and co-worker who gave him a lot of encouragement and advice.
Lozano has decided to go into electrician work and go to school for electrical engineering,
Lozano has words of wisdom and advice for anyone who wants to go for a youth apprenticeship for the school or even one outside of school:
“Being a youth apprentice has definitely helped me decide what I want for my future and what I want to do. I started out lost, but my bosses and co-workers gave a lot of advice on what to do, what they did for work growing up, and what can even be more beneficial for me trying to join a career. They helped me decide what I wanted to do for my career; and I've decided I want to try and get into electrician work, learn more about it, and even go to school for it.”
