Menasha High School is clear about the significance of extracurriculars and sports. With sports such as wrestling to clubs such as Future Business Leader of America, there is likely an outlet for the majority of students. The one extracurricular that has not been mentioned on the daily announcements, though, is lacrosse.
Appleton United Girls Lacrosse is a varsity team composed of Appleton East, North, and West; Fox Valley Lutheran, Hortonville, Ripon, Waupaca, Wild Rose, Xavier, Kaukauna, Freedom, and Menasha. Anyone from these schools can participate on the team just like their own school’s sports, but only two Menasha students are currently involved. Due to the lack of teams in the sport, a game could be as near as Neenah or as far as Hudson, making playing incredibly intense.
With the short season running from May to June, players have to meet the demands for proper play in all seventeen games this season. Typically, practice lasts from 6-8 pm every day.
Lacrosse has a fast-paced nature, which is why most players end up using soccer cleats. There isn't that impact needing you to dig in, just enough stability to stay agile. Between cutting through a settle, picking, and checking, there is not much standing around, whether you are in the position of attack, defense, or midfield.
Being around each other for two or more hours every day, players form bonds that make gameplay even more productive. More scores have been made between two players working together for a pick than any player individually. Also, the varying schools with players that have never come into contact truly make it a unique experience that any player would recommend.
