Like A Love Story by Abdi Nazemian follows three main characters, Art, Judy, and Reza. Reza just moved to the U.S with his mother to live with his stepfather and stepbrother. Reza knows he’s gay, but is terrified of anyone finding out due to the media’s images of gay men and the AIDS epidemic. Judy is an aspiring fashion designer, and volunteers with ACT UP in her free time. She has never fit in, and never thought of falling in love, until she meets Reza, and their relationship grows. Art is their high school’s only “out and proud” gay kid. His conservative parents tiptoe around anything considered “taboo”, including their son being gay. He rebels by documenting the AIDS epidemic through photographs.
As Art and Reza become closer, Reza struggles to find a way out of his relationship with Judy without breaking her heart, and the most important friendship he’s ever had.
