Everyone loves a snow day in the winter. A day off away from the stress of school always is appealing. Do you have a superstition to try to get a day off of school?
People have different rituals in hopes of a snow day. And if they are lucky enough to have the day off, there are certain traditions people enjoy.
Flushing ice down the toilet is one way people try to get snow to come their way. The second way is placing a spoon under their pillow. Dailybreak’s Cabinet of Curiosities states that these rituals originate from snow dances done by Native Americans to change weather patterns. People eventually tried to change the weather to go in favor of a snow day.
According to The Atlantic, here is a list of things children will do to invoke a snow day: sleeping with their pajamas inside out, putting ice cubes on their porch, putting white crayons in the freezer, and running around their dining table five times before bed.
Though these are superstitions, children seem to love the excitement of possibly changing the weather and causing a snow day. They get to stay home, drink hot chocolate, play games, watch movies, make snow angels and snowmen and have snowball fights. What is your favorite way to spend a snow day?
However old you may be, all these activities can still be fun. So when the weather looks promising for a snow day, put a spoon under your pillow or flush some ice down the toilet, so you can relive some of your childhood memories.
