Inspired by Mr. Eastman, Menasha High School Tech Ed teacher, Alaina joined Big Brothers Big Sisters. Alaina Ketchum, MHS senior, saw the work at BBBS not only great for the Littles, but as well as the Bigs.
Ketchum met her Little, Loki, who she describes as the “sweetest, kindest soul” last October.
“Loki and I were great partners,” Ketchum said. “As the year passed we all grew bonds together. It was one of our most challenging moments together, as well as saying goodbye to my little one for the summer.”
After a couple months, Ketchum met up with her Little again at a Timber Rattler Game.
“It was like I could breathe a little more again. Loki is one of the lights of my life, he has changed my point of view in all the better ways,” Ketchum said.
Ketchum learned a lot during BBBS from being a mentor, to being a leader, to taking chances. This opened up her inner child.
When she and Loki first met, they built a tower together made from marshmallows and noodles. “Ours was the tallest,” Ketchum said, “and from that moment forward, it was a bliss.”
Through BBBS Ketchum was awarded the best mentor in the Mid-Eastern state of Wisconsin.

Ketchum feels supported by many people in her life from teachers, friends, family, and other mentors she worked with in BBBS.
Ketchum will be attending the Oshkosh Riverside Campus for Fox Valley Technical College and going for Surgical Technology.
When Ketchum starts college she will still continue being Loki’s Big. She started BBBS through school and has now transferred to the BBBS community.
“We are so excited, and grateful for this opportunity!”
When Ketchum graduates from college she plans on working at a hospital in the Fox Cities area, so she can start her surgical technician journey. She looks forward to new opportunities and new goals that will come her way.
Ketchum offers encouragement and advice to underclassmen who would like to follow in her footsteps:
“I highly encourage joining the Big Brothers Big Sisters program! Not only will these little kids be impacted by you, you will be impacted by them. This program has changed my life within two years. I could not imagine a life without my little brother after joining this program. It’s a great opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and guide, teach, and mentor great little kids.”
