The MHS Car Club is for people who are interested in cars and being part of a community.
People not only fix cars, but build cars from scratch. Students do research to help put the car together. Even though they need to do research, which might not sound fun, they are having fun doing something they love and enjoying it.
The president of the MHS Car Club and senior Corbin Bruley said fixing cars is a life skill. He encourages people to come join and learn how to fix up different cars.
Bruley said the two goals of the MHS Car Club is to get work on a car project and to get the MHS Car Show running again. He is hoping to have a spring car show and talking with other businesses to build interest of people who might want to bring their cars to the show.
The previous car project got ruined and they needed to scrap that project. Luckily they got a donation from a community member who wants to keep students in school and engaged.
They are currently working on a project - a 1985 Porsche 944. The goal is to make the car show worthy.
The biggest challenge of building the car is all the research and planning that needs to be done before actually working on the car. The car can be hard to work on too. “Porsche does not make it easy,” Bruley said.”But when you accomplish something you feel like you really accomplished something.”
Some victories in fixing the car included putting the seats in, making working windows, realigning the hatch, and right now they are working on the exhaust.

There are a few things before the car is running, for example right now there is no fuel tank. They need to run fuel lines and weld brackets on the fuel tank to bolt it on the car.
Bruley brought the car club back to MHS through his determination. He is hoping more people will join. He is a senior right now and without interest in the club there will not be another car project.
If students want to join MHS Car Club they are asked to talk to Bruley or Mr. Rasmussen. Bruley will ask if they have researched the Porsche or have any prior knowledge on vehicles. He then will assign a research task that the student will bring back and share findings with Corbin. Once the plan looks good, the student will be assigned a task on the car.
Joining the car club is an amazing opportunity and you gain a lot of knowledge. Bruley points out you can bet experience for careers and to put on a scholarship application. “This can really put you over the edge over many other people,” Bruley said. “There are not many opportunities to work on a car, let alone a Porsche.”
