Come check out the fall play and see if you can figure out where this prop is in the play.
Some of you may be familiar with the theater program at Menasha High School, and some of you may have even been part of making the stage come to life or attended such events. One part of the theater wouldn’t work without the other. It is important to appreciate the people working behind the stage as well.
The theater students will be presenting Miss Nelson Is Missing and Bremen Town Musicians. Thursday through Saturday the public is invited to see the play at 7:00 PM, and again Saturday also at 2:00 PM. Tickets will be for purchase at the door.
Let’s put a spotlight on the people working on the set of these awesome productions.
Mr. Losselyong, art teacher at MHS, teaches the Set Art and Design class. In Set Art & Design students design, construct, and paint the large set pieces for our plays and musicals.
“This class requires creativity, and a willingness to try new things,” said Mr. Losselyong.
Before the school year begins Mr. Losselyong is told what shows are being performed, and then they start designing and creating.

If a student is interested in taking this class, they should consider a few things. This class requires a lot of self-motivation, creativity, and attention to detail.
“Knowing how to use power tools, and understanding basic construction can also be very helpful, but not necessary, ” Mr. Losselyong said.
As a student who has taken this class myself, it is a bit challenging to those who are new to these activities but it’s incredibly exciting to learn new things! Not only are you helping yourself with skills you could use in the real world, but you’re also helping out the school with its productions.
A wide variety of students would enjoy this class. You could learn or build on the skills of woodworking, painting, or anything to do with creativity. You also do not have to be part of the theater program or have taken the class to sign up. This is great for freshmen who have not taken Art Survey yet and would like to take an art class.
“If you want to challenge yourself and try something new, then sign up for this class!” said Mr. Losselyong.
