Throw and Catch Tag
By: I don't remember!
I usually have about four taggers for a class of around sixty students.
If you get tagged, stand still with your hand up.
A friend will come with a gator ball and throw it to you. Once you catch it, you get to keep it and then go help unfreeze someone else.
Before starting, we talk about making eye contact with the person catching and using proper throwing form. I remind them, “step, twist, throw.”
We experimented with the number of gator balls. For our smaller class of about fifty students, ten balls was too many, but eight worked well.
At the end of each round, if you still have a ball or are frozen, you lose that round. This can be tricky for younger students since they often want to hold onto the ball the whole time instead of passing it on.
