Steal the Bacon by Amy Hancock @somespikeithot
This activity is very similar to another one of my other games "Jewel Thief" because it's chasing and fleeing, guarding, stealing, and using flag belts. The goal is to steal and collect items for you and your partner.
"A" collected a beanbag from another group, dropped it off at he and his partner's hoop, and ran to go collect another one.
I love how his partner, "M" was so fervently guarding their beanbags!
Students have a partner and will stand in a hula hoop around the perimeter of the playing area and each pair will share a football belt and will start off with the amount of items the teacher says. I usually start my kids with 3 items in a hula hoop but I also have big classes and I might not have enough for them to get more than that. You can use whatever you have a lot of like beanbags, fluff balls, etc.
The child with the football belt on, is the collector while their partner guards their hoop and the balls they have collected.
Collectors may attempt to take from anyone EXCEPT their next door neighbors. We want them to go run, chase, and flee! Sneaking behind your neighbor's hoop to steal a ball/beanbag is not the way to go. (Could they totally sneak behind someone else, YES. Some of them figure that out.)
If a collector can take a beanbag from another team and make it back to their hoop before that particular guard pulls their belt, they can put the beanbag in their hoop. If their belt is pulled by that guard, they give the beanbag back and put on their belt and try and get an item from someone else.
In Jewel Thief, I like partners to switch with wearing the belt every time. In this game, they partner will maintain their entire role until the teacher stops the game and wants to start another round. Switching the belt means there is "a changing of the guard" and it would be too easy for a collector to steal a beanbag.
After a couple of minutes, end the round. Collectors and guards change roles. Everyone has to start with 3 items again. If you have more than 3 beanbags, put the extras in the middle because someone else will need them. (Re-distributing the beanbags is what will take the longest.)
