Jewel Thief by Amy Hancock @somespikeithot
Students have a partner and will stand in a hula hoop around the perimeter of the playing area and each pair will share a football belt.
Beanbags or other small items are in the middle of the playing area and the teacher picks a pair of kids to be the guards of the jewels.
Partners take turns running out to the middle and trying to “steal” a jewel. The partner running out is wearing the football belt. If they can steal a jewel and make it back to their partner without their belt falling off or a guard pulling it off, they get to keep the jewel.
If they are caught, they put the jewel back and take their belt back to their partner and let them have a turn.
Notes: If a kid takes more than one item, I will take all their items out of the their hoop and put it back in the middle. Cheaters will not win.
Guards like to keep their beanbags/items piled in the middle to make guarding easier, but I find the bumping of head happens more so keep those items a little more spread out.
